Corinth Kiwanis
Club was chartered on November 10, 1925 with 45 members. The sponsoring
club was Kiwanis Club of Columbus, MS. W. Thomas Young served
as President the first two years. The weekly meeting place was
the Belmont Café, later moving to the Waldron Hotel. The
club was dedicated to the economic, moral and spiritual affairs
of the community.
In 1949 under
the leadership of John Stanley III the scholarship account was
established with each member donating $.10 per year of their birthday.
This account still exists today to sponsorships for its members
families for college.
Fund raisers
over the years has been a horse show in 1959, Heisman Homecoming
in 1977 till 1980, Pancake Breakfast , Dizzy Dean World Series
in 1981 and a Harvest Coupon Book Sale in 1982. The Chig Biggers
night golf tournament was started in 1989 and is held the third
Tuesday night in August presently. The club has in the past sponsored
a Cub Scout Pack, a baseball team at the local Sportsplex and
City Park.
The club meets
every Tuesday and the Board of Directors meets the second Friday
of each month.
